An elegant late 19th-century private mansion in the heart of Paris. The 140 square meters living room benefits from large bay windows, opening onto a Japanese garden on one side and overlooking an indoor water feature on the other side.
The Japanese influence of the inner-garden and the Parisian ambiance are what inspired an Art Déco design of the living room space.
A pair of stools by Pierre Chareau stands beside two daybeds designed by Adrian Pearsall, all unified by a bespoke lacquered wood coffee table at the center.
The starting point for the design was the client’s admiration for Japanese arts and crafts, and his stunning collection of Jean Dunand's artworks.
Hand-made ceramic tiles are used on the fireplace surrounds.
The two fireplaces are different in texture and glaze of the tiles.
The room is designed to be used as a music room or an intimate evening venue for a small group of guests.
The majority of furniture pieces selected for this interior are collectible design and vintage items, mostly of French and Japanese provenance. They are combined with bespoke pieces designed specifically for this project.
The collection of Jean Dunand's pieces, like the wood tray table with coquille d'oeuf on black lacquer ground, is one of the main inspirations for the design of this living room.
The interior is created using collectible design, decorative art pieces from the Art Deco period, vintage pieces from the 1950s, and items designed specifically for this project.
